1. Our Commitment
Broadband Fixer is committed to ensuring this website is accessible to the widest possible audience, including people with disabilities and those using assistive technologies such as screen readers, voice recognition software, and keyboard-only navigation.
We aim to meet the requirements of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, as referenced in the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018. Although Broadband Fixer is a private-sector platform, we voluntarily adopt this standard as best practice.
2. Measures We Have Taken
To support accessibility, Broadband Fixer has implemented the following measures:
2.1 Visual Design
- Colour contrast ratios of at least 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text, meeting WCAG 2.1 Success Criterion 1.4.3
- Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality
- We do not rely on colour alone to convey information — icons, labels, and patterns supplement colour cues
- The site is responsive and adapts to viewport sizes from 320px wide upwards
2.2 Keyboard Navigation
- All interactive elements (buttons, links, accordion controls, form inputs) are reachable and operable via keyboard alone
- Focus indicators are visible on all interactive elements
- Logical tab order is maintained throughout all pages
- No keyboard traps — users can navigate away from any component using the keyboard
2.3 Screen Reader Support
- All images and SVG icons include appropriate
alttext oraria-labelattributes - Decorative SVGs use
aria-hidden="true"to prevent unnecessary announcements - Form elements are associated with descriptive labels
- Page structure uses semantic HTML5 landmarks (
<header>,<nav>,<main>,<footer>) - Heading hierarchy is logical and consistent (H1 → H2 → H3)
- ARIA roles and live regions are used where dynamic content updates
2.4 Language & Readability
- The HTML
langattribute is set toenon all pages - Content is written in plain English, targeting a reading age of approximately 14 years
- Jargon is explained on first use where technical terms are necessary
- Link text is descriptive and meaningful out of context — we avoid "click here" or "read more" alone
2.5 Motion & Animation
- Animations (such as the CTA pulse ring) use CSS and respect the
prefers-reduced-motionmedia query — users who have requested reduced motion in their OS settings will not see these animations - No content flashes more than three times per second
- No auto-playing video or audio content is present on this platform
2.6 Mobile & Touch Accessibility
- All touch targets are at least 44×44 CSS pixels in size, meeting WCAG 2.5.5
- The site functions correctly with iOS VoiceOver and Android TalkBack screen readers
- Pinch-to-zoom is not disabled — users can zoom to their preferred level
3. Known Limitations
We are aware of the following areas where our accessibility may not yet fully meet WCAG 2.1 AA:
- Accordion components: Some ARIA live region announcements on the FAQ accordions may not be optimal across all screen reader and browser combinations. We are reviewing this.
- Comparison table on small screens: The performance benchmark table requires horizontal scrolling on viewports below 480px. We are working on a card-based mobile alternative.
- PDF documents: Any downloadable documents linked from this site may not yet be fully tagged for screen reader accessibility. We are auditing these separately.
We are actively working to address these issues. If you encounter an accessibility barrier not listed above, please contact us so we can prioritise a fix.
4. Supported Browsers & Assistive Technologies
Broadband Fixer has been tested and is designed to work with the following combinations:
- NVDA + Chrome (Windows)
- JAWS + Chrome or Edge (Windows)
- VoiceOver + Safari (macOS and iOS)
- TalkBack + Chrome (Android)
- Keyboard-only navigation in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari
We target the latest two major versions of each browser listed above.
